  • GeoToad
    GeoToad is a geocaching query tool to help speed up the boring part of geocaching: choosing the cache and collecting the data. It allows you to generate any kind of complex query you want, and the program will go and poll the Geocaching query, grab the data, and output it to any format you want. The Geocache info can be synced straight to your GPS, iPod, PDA, or cell phone in over 20 different formats.
  • gipfel
    gipfel is a tool to find the names of mountains or points of interest on a picture. It uses a database containing names and GPS data. With the given viewpoint (the point from which the picture was taken) and two known mountains on the picture, gipfel can compute all parameters needed to compute the positions of other mountains on the picture.

    nmeap is an extensible parser for NMEA-0183 (GPS) data, written in portable C. It has a small footprint, is portable, extensible, and I/O agnostic. It is suitable for Linux, Win32, and embedded systems.
  • np
    np is a terminal based NMEA parser written in Perl. It provides quick and flexible access to GPS data from various sources. Currently data can be read from devices, text files, STDIN or GPSD (raw mode). The list of supported sentences includes $GPRMC, $GPGGA, $GPGSA, $GPGSV and Garmin's proprietary $PGRME.
  • phpoi
    Phpoi consists of a number of PHP scripts intended to handle points of interest. With phpoi, you can store points of interest in a database, put lists of those points on the Web and allow visitors to download files for GPS navigators.
  • QGPS
    QGPS is a small GPS status program written from scratch in Qt. It is designed to work with a NMEA-compliant GPS device that outputs the GGA, GSA, GSV, and RMC strings. Aside from displaying latitude, longitude, and elevation, it also reports satellite signal strength (Signal to Noise Ratio) and positions in the sky using a custom widget (QSatelliteTrack).
  • QtGPS
    Linux GPS receiver software based on the Qt toolkit. This provides for simple logging of a journey, replay of a logged journey, a real-time moving map display and the ability to add and edit your own maps and features.
  • Roadnav
    Roadnav is an in-car navigation system capable of running on a variety of operating systems, including Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. It can obtain a car's present location from a GPS unit, plot street maps of the area, and provide verbal turn by turn directions to any location in the USA. It uses the free TIGER/Line files from the US Census Bureau to build the maps, along with the GNIS state and topical gazetteer data from the USGS to identify locations.
  • Viking
    a free/open source program to manage GPS data. You can import and plot tracks and waypoints, show Terraserver maps under it, add coordinate lines, make new tracks and waypoints, hide different things, etc. It is written in C with the GTK+ 2 toolkit
