ApacheDS is an LDAP directory server written in Java and developed by the Apache Directory project.
A distinguishing feature is its ability to operate either as a conventional standalone server or as a component embedded inside another Java application. Its modular architecture makes it useful for directory-service deployments as well as development and testing environments that need a self-contained LDAP service.
