Comical – comic book reader

Comical is a portable CBR and CBZ comic book viewer written in C++ using wxWidgets.

It supports multiple image formats and uses high-quality image scaling algorithms to fit pages onscreen.

The software is released under an open source license.

Features include:

  • Intuitive interface.
  • Full-Screen mode.
  • Single-Page or Double-Page display modes.
  • Several zoom modes – Fit, Fit-to-Width, Fit-to-Height, Original, and Custom.
  • Crisp image scaling with algorithms adapted from the FreeImage project.
  • Autodetects double pages scanned together and displays it accordingly.
  • Prefetches and caches pages for speed and responsiveness.
  • Page rotation.
  • Left-to-Right or Right-to-Left browsing.
  • Displays JPG, GIF, TIFF, and PNG images.
  • Supports RAR(.cbr) and ZIP(.cbz) comic book archives including password protected files.
  • Supports all encrypted RAR archives as well as ZIP archives with pkzip 2.04g encryption.
  • Google Local style scrolling.
  • Cross-platform support – runs under Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows operating systems.
