Freevo – HTPC media centre

Freevo allows you to manage your entire digital media collection – music, videos, photos etc. via a remote controlled TV interface. Through its built in web interface you can also access your media, view your TV guide and schedule recordings from anywhere in the world.

Freevo is 100% DRM free, plays video in a wide variety of formats, and puts you in control of the television.

Freevo tries to reuse existing other applications such as MPlayer, xine and gstreamer for this task.

Freevo is included in a number of distributions including Feux, Freepia, Freevix, FreevoLive, GeeXboX, Morphix, and Movix2.

  • Support for multiple tuners – watch and record simultaneously.
  • Separate recording server allows multiple backends and frontends on a network.
  • Re-encode recorded TV to save space.

  • Play any kind of file supported by mplayer/xine/ffmpeg including DIVX & MPEG4.
  • Watch the latest movie trailers.
  • Retrieve video covers & information.
  • Play & backup audio CDs and retrieve album track lists & covers.
  • Play MP3/Wav/Ogg/Flac or any other audio supported by mplayer or xine.
  • Tune into Internet radio from around the world.
  • Listen to FM radio.
  • Read news headlines and the weather.
  • View and import images from a digital camera.
  • Play games including Quake3, Enemy Territory, America’s Army. Any games supported by Cedega and all the classics through emulators.
  • Control home automation equipment (lights, sockets etc.) media & entertainment with a server for music, movies and tv shows, plus a PVR and DVD Player.
