OZvm – Cambridge Z88 portable computer emulator

OZvm is principally an open source hardware emulation of the Cambridge Z88 portable computer – a Z80 CPU system with 4Mb addressable memory, a monochrome 640×64 LCD and RS-232 serial port. It allows to install any ROM or application card binary that also runs on a real Z88 portable. The Z88 came complete with an integrated set of applications software: word-processing, spreadsheet, database, calculator, diary, calendar, clock, alarm, printer editor – all included in ROM.

OZvm is part of the Z88 Workbench toolchain used to build software for the Cambridge Z88. It has been implemented using Java SE V1.6 or later.

OZvm is also a versatile Z80 assembler debugging environment with command line, screen activity recording and Z80 instruction logging. It assists the developer to test Z80 assembler programming of the Z88 operating system or 3rd party applications.

Features include:

  • Install and run any released ROM from Cambridge Computer (UK and foreign versions) from menu.
  • Double screen size mode.
  • Good Z80 CPU hardware emulation.
  • Keyboard layouts:
    • English.
    • Danish/Norwegian.
    • French.
    • Swedish/Finnish.
  • Screen refresh rate: 10, 25, 50, or 100 frames per second.
  • Load and Save Z88 snapshots.
  • Useful utility for integrating Z88 application compilation builds with the host desktop.
