appserver.io is a multithreaded application server for PHP.
The goal of appserver.io is to provide a solution as the next standard for enterprise applications written in PHP.
appserver.io is free and open source software.
Features include:
- Its own performant HTTP/1.1 compliant Web Server and HTTP foundation. Basic functionality can be extended by the usage of completely independent, configurable modules interacting with the request/response chain.
- A powerful Servlet Engine, with true multi-threading. The Servlet Engine provides a web container that enables developers to load applications and objects, so-called servlets, on application server startup and hold them persistently in memory.
- A Dependency Injection Container, for building modern, modular and testable code.
- Multiple Persistence Containers, for sessions and other stateful components. The Persistence Container enables developers to hold objects, so-called beans, in memory whereby it is possible to define whether a bean will be a singleton, bound to a HTTP session or has no state at all.
- A Message Queue System, for controlling the execution of long running tasks. It provides services that enable developers to process messages asynchronously therefore messages that are plain PHP objects, are stacked on the queue whereas receivers, represented by MessageDriven beans, consumes them in a chronological order.
- A Timer Service, for running scheduled tasks. The Timer Service enables the execution of methods at a determined point of time whereby the configuration, as execution in the range of seconds is also possible, allows a significant higher differentiation then services like CRON.
- Supports Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP), a programming paradigm that aims to increase modularity by allowing the separation of cross-cutting concerns.
- Rewrite Engine – provides a module for rewriting URLs and redirecting requests by using classical regular expressions. Rules can be varied, nested and chained to even fulfil complex requirements. In addition, the rewrite engine also serves as a basis for complex rewrite maps which can be loaded from external data sources e.g. databases.
