ASUSTOR AS5402T

Asustor Nimbustor 2 Gen2 AS5402T Review

ADM

The ASUSTOR Data Master Operating System (ADM for short) is a Linux-based operating system developed by ASUSTOR exclusively for their NAS devices.

The desktop offers lots of nice touches. It’s reminiscent of many popular Linux desktop environments offering resizable windows, desktop widgets, and a personalized desktop. Unlike desktop Linux distros, most of the screen estate is taken up by large icons which let you access all the functionality offered by ADM.

We previously published a detailed review of ADM v4.2.5, and remain very impressed with its performance and stability.

The NAS came with ADM v4.2.6. While testing the NAS, we were prompted to install a couple of updates ADM v4.2.7.RR41 and 4.2.7.RRD1.

AS5402T ADM Update

ADM now sports a gaming-inspired theme which complements the gaming-inspired appearance of the device itself together with other functionality designed for gamers such as support for iSCSI drives and ASUSTOR Live which offers your own streaming centre. All the things we talked about in our review of v4.2.5 remain current, so we won’t repeat them here.

When we reviewed v4.2.5, ADM was running on the Linux kernel 4.9.119. The current version is using a later version of the Linux kernel.
