Bareos (Backup Archiving Recovery Open Sourced) is a reliable, cross-network open source software for backup, archiving and recovery of data for all well-established operating systems.
Bareos is made up of the following five major components or services: Director, Console, File, Storage, and Monitor services. The Bareos Director service is the program that supervises all the backup, restore, verify and archive operations. The Bareos Console service is the program that allows the administrator or user to communicate with the Bareos Director. Currently, the Bareos Console is available in two versions: a text-based console and a QT-based GUI interface. The Bareos File service (also known as the Client program) is the software program that is installed on the machine to be backed up. The Bareos Storage services consist of the software programs that perform the storage and recovery of the file attributes and data to the physical backup media or volumes. The Catalog services are comprised of the software programs responsible for maintaining the file indexes and volume databases for all files backed up.

Bareos is a fork of Bacula, and has been in development since late 2010.
