K-9 Mail is a free and open source email client for Android.
It is designed as an alternative to the stock email clients included with the platform.
The client supports both POP3 and IMAP protocols and supports IMAP IDLE for real-time notifications.

K-9 Mail is a first-rate email client for Android. With support for unified inbox and multiple accounts, it offers most of the features we need although the minimum interval for email checking isn’t ideal.

With the fairly recent announcement that K-9 Mail will morph into Thunderbird for Android things are looking even more rosy.

Eligibility criteria
| For an Android app to be awarded our love, it must satisfy the following criteria: | |
 | High quality with a good set of features, stable in operation and mature software; |
| | No charge to use the app; |
| | No intrusive ads in the program; |
| | Open source and proprietary software can be included; |
| | Apps where additional functionality is available for a payment can be included where appropriate. |
