Bitcoin-Qt is an open source Graphical User Interface around the core Bitcoin protocol that is run by the majority of nodes on the network. “bitcoind” is the same software but without the user interface — it is simply a process that runs in the background and only allows access to it through its API. It is a full node, the client needs to download the entire blockchain to operate.
Bitcoin is a decentralized P2P electronic cash system without a central server or trusted parties.
Users hold the crypto keys to their own money and transact directly with each other, with the help of the network to check for double-spending.
Features include:
- Full Bitcoin client.
- Client is arguably the most trustworthy.
- Send and receive Bitcoin payments.
- Transaction history.
- Addresses – Bitcoin addresses for sending payments.
- Export transactions as a .csv file.
- Export Address Book Data.
- Drag and drop support for bitcoin: URIs on web pages.
- Builds the backbone of the network.
- Offers the highest levels of security, privacy, and stability.
- Wallet private key encryption; you can set a passphrase that must be entered before sending coins.
- Digitally sign a message with one of your addresses.
- Internationalization support – translations include: German, Spanish, Spanish-Castilian, Norwegian, and Dutch.
