Dino – modern open-source chat client

Dino is a modern open-source chat client for the desktop. Dino is built on the XMPP protocol, an internet standard for decentralized communication – the instant messaging pendant to email.

It focuses on providing a clean and reliable Jabber/XMPP experience while having your privacy in mind. Dino does not include a full browser stack with its large resource usage and potential of security issues. Instead it is a native desktop application meaning it is small and has a light footprint.

Dino is free and open source software.

Features include:

  • Intuitive, clean and modern user interface.
  • Send messages to individuals as well as to private group chats and public channels.
  • Encryption – end-to-end encryption via OMEMO or OpenPGP. The OMEMO double-ratchet encryption provides you with a modern encryption scheme with individual device trust that is widely used in the XMPP network.
  • Message correction – correct the last message you sent. You can access the function by hovering the message that you want to correct and then click the edit button that appears. If you’re a fan of shortcuts, you can also press the UP key.
  • File sharing – send files via drag and drop. Send images by pasting them from your clipboard.
  • Upload files. Transfer files via your server or directly to your contact, peer-to-peer and without size limitations.
  • Displays the number of unread messages in the conversation list.
