Essential System Tools: GParted – resize, copy, and move partitions without data loss

Last Updated on March 24, 2023

Summary

When it comes to getting under the bonnet and altering disk partitions and their file systems, you’ll want a mature and well-tested application. GParted (and GParted Live) fits the bill. Why GParted is our recommended partitioning software has little to do with its graphical user interface, useful as it is. What makes it stand out is its reliability and robustness, good support for a plethora of file systems, and a large feature set.

Make sure you backup your valuable data before doing anything to your partitions.
