13. Active Window Control
The Active Window Control widget controls the currently active window. It displays the active window title and icon. It also allows you to close the active window, and access some other actions. Simple, but effective and very useful.
This widget falls under the KDE umbrella. It’s definitely one to try.
14. Condensed Weather
Our preferred Weather Widget was discontinued. But out of the available widgets, Condensed Weather gets our seal of approval. It takes up a tiny amount of screen estate yet conveys a clear and concise forecast.
We can define the update period, the days that are visible, change the units (we prefer Celsius rather than the default Fahrenheit), and configure pressure, wind speed, and visibility.
15. Translator
This widget acts as a frontend for the Translate Shell (formerly Google Translate CLI) package. You’ll need translate-shell installed.
Translate Shell is a command-line translator powered by Google Translate, Bing Translator, Yandex.Translate, and Apertium. However, this widget currently only lets you access Google Translate. Support for the other engines is planned for a future release.
16. Webslice
Webslice is a genuinely useful widget even though it might initially appear rather unnecessary. Webslice adds a slice of the web on your desktop.
It genuinely has practical purposes. One of the crew uses it to display continuously updated stockmarket information. But an even better use of the widget is to have the output from a streaming security camera sitting on your desktop.
Webslice offers lots of customization including a defined period for auto reloading, change the zoom factor, define multiple URLs which are accessible through the context menu, and much more.
