In Operation
Here’s an image of FreeTube in action. The FreeTube interface is designed to mimic the YouTube interface and this makes it easier for users to migrate over.
We’ve subscribed to a few channels without needing an account
Both Youtube Trending, and Youtube Chapters are supported, as well as the essential mini player (Picture-in-Picture)
Let’s explore some of the program’s other features:
- The main benefit of FreeTube is the private nature. No longer are your viewing habits tracked by Google (or anyone else).
- Import subscriptions from YouTube. This means you can get up-and-running quickly, so that your feed looks familiar. You can also export subscriptions.
- All subscriptions and history are stored locally, not in the cloud.
- Two extractor APIs to choose from (Built in or Invidious).
- The app is designed to look similar to YouTube itself.
- Connect to an externally setup proxy such as Tor.
- Full theme support.
- Distration-free support.
- Internationalization support – the software is translated into many languages.

You guys just keep on turning up the best apps. I love this! I’m using the appImage for testing and it worked without a hitch. This feels like many steps up.
For the first time in what feels like hundreds of years (it seems), I even started adding subscriptions without the tracking, emailing normally tied to them. FreeTube makes YouTube fun again.
