FunOS – minimal, fast, and secure Linux distribution

FunOS is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu LTS.

It uses the JWM window manager, comes without Snap, and includes the latest Ubuntu HWE kernel. By avoiding Snap, FunOS maintains a lean, responsive system for users who value speed and efficiency. Perfect for users who want a fast and minimal Linux experience without sacrificing stability.

JWM is a lightweight and efficient window manager, suitable for older hardware or systems with limited resources. Its simplicity and ease of configuration allow users to tailor their desktop environment to meet their needs, delivering fast performance and low resource usage.

FunOS is built with minimalism in mind. Get the essential tools without unnecessary bloat. FunOS uses around 230-250 MB of RAM when idle, providing a fast and responsive user experience, even on systems with limited resources.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")?

A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system.

Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies.

Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros.
