What's a Linux distribution ("distro")? |
A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system. Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies. Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros. |

Hmm, NuTyx is a GNU/Linux OS distribution of Swss origin, primarily French language, which was created back on November 28th, 2007 using the CARDS package manager specially created for this distribution.
GratOS, a French language GNU/Linus OS distribution using the CARDS package manager was launched in 2021 and is not even listed on Distrowatch.
Y a-t-il eu une séparation d’amitié?
Great-OS is an interesting distro and warrants inclusion on our Big List.
Not sure about your point re the package manager used. There are already too many package management systems available, so there’s no issue there.
The Big List aims to cover all actively developed Linux distributions. I’m going to compile an expanded version which will be more useful.
I’ve never liked such generically named distros. The same goes with PCLinuxOS & Linux Lite, etc.
100% agree with you Torin. It’s not a good name but at least it wasn’t Mildy-Average-OS 🙂
