Kopia – backup/restore tool

Summary

Kopia is an excellent backup solution for backing up files and directories using snapshots. It offers fine-grained control and forces users to use encryption. It gets our strong recommendation.

Kopia offers the best of both worlds. It has an excellent GUI frontend. But it’s command-line interface gives you full access to all Kopia features, including allowing you to create/connect to repositories, manage snapshots and policies, and provide low-level access to the underlying repository, including low-level data recovery.

There’s even a server mode which helps centrally manage backups of multiple machines, but there’s no requirement to run the server mode.

Backup software should provide multiple options for restoring your data, including restoring to its original location or a different location under your control. Kopia does this particularly well.
