Linux Candy

Linux Candy: lifecycler – terminal aquarium

In Operation

Here’s lifecycler in action.

lifecycler in action

The software doesn’t have any options or flags. Just start lifecycler from a terminal. The idea is to put your terminal running lifecycler in a corner of your desktop. When you feel fidgety, left mouse click in the window, and you’ll see a food pellet dispensed. The fish will then zoom towards that pellet.

Clicking the mouse wheel toggles between day and night modes.

Summary

The developer calls this a CLI game. It’s not a game in the traditional sense. It’s best described as a fidget-toy.

To get the best results, your terminal needs 24-bit colour support and good rendering speed.

lifecycler is worthy of inclusion in our Linux Candy series. It’s certainly not going to set the word alight, it’s not going to radically improve your productivity, but it makes the desktop a bit more fun. It makes a good counterpart to ASCIIQuarium.

Hi Steve. Under the download section at [link removed], it mentions M$ Windows so this is cross-platform. Cheers.
