Linux Lite is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu. It bills itself as a gateway operating system.
The distribution seeks to target Linux beginners and Windows users, by making the transition from Windows to Linux as seamless as possible. It does this by providing easy to use familiar software such as Skype, Steam, Kodi and Spotify, a free Office suite, and a familiar user interface or Desktop Environment.
Linux Lite follows the Unix philosophy with regards to software selection and programming as it applies to the modern era, select and write programs that do one thing and do it well.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")? |
A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system. Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies. Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros. |
I never liked the name, ‘Linux Lite’, it’s just too generic.
I agree. It’s a pretty good distro nonetheless.
Just like PCLinuxOS
Hi. PCLinuxOS is possibly the most generic name for any distro. 😀
