Alaska is a state located in the Western United States. Alaska borders the Canadian province of British Columbia and the Yukon territory to the east. It also shares a maritime border with the Russian Federation’s Chukotka Autonomous Okrug to the west.

The state acquired its name from the Aleutian word “alaxsxaq,” meaning mainland.
The U.S. purchased Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million in 1867.
Alaska has the most glaciers in the United States and is home to wildlife including polar bears, walruses, beluga whales, black bears, and caribou.
