Memory Usage
ps_mem reports that Melody uses around 214MB of RAM in general usage. ps_mem is a really useful utility that accurately reports memory usage of software.
Let’s see how this fares with other popular music players.
A few words about the above chart. The two music players with the lowest memory usage are console-based software. But even graphical based music players can be extremely frugal with memory; witness that Qmmp and Pragha use a mere 45MB of RAM. Melody’s memory consumption is pretty reasonable.
What the chart doesn’t show is a comparison with the memory consumption of dedicated internet radio players. Melody’s 214MB of RAM usage compares very favorably to odio which uses nearly 1GB of RAM. But there’s some extremely frugal console applications like PyRadio available.

Why do you keep plugging your Raspberry Pi blog?
We’re loving the Raspberry Pi blog from Luke. And from web traffic, it’s a very popular blog, generating lots of interest from both Linux and non-Linux users alike.
Does it embed picture of cover inside the file when possible – as Sayonara does ?
This is my first requirement ( I love my music to keep its face whatever device I play it on ). Never understood why such a feature is so rare in Linux realm. Gapless playback my second requirement, though.
Embedding pictures is unimportant for most users. Isn’t embedding pictures for mp3/id3v2 only? Any self-respecting music enthusiast listens to lossless formats like FLAC.
It is not possible to rip audio CDs to mp3 with Melody, isńt it?
