Ninslash Team Deathmatch

Ninslash – a great fun open source 2D platform game needs YOU!

In Operation

In the invasion mode, you’ll find yourself placed in a randomly generated (procedural) map. Here’s an image of the game in action (most of the images taken are in spectator mode).

Ninslash

There’s some really excellent drawn graphics, and alluring game mechanics going on. Graphics are very smooth, beautifully animated, with attractive visual effects. I particularly like the sliding and hanging mechanics, the former lets you pass players, monsters, and mines by sliding.

There’s a good array of weapons. You have 4 slots for weapons, so make your choices wisely. There’s lots of interesting objects like flame traps, conveyor belts, jump pads, and much more which liven up the gameplay. There’s 64 player support (with a maximum of 16 for the invasion mode).

I’m not a big fan of the background music though, but there’s an option to turn it off.

Game Modes

There are a total of seven gaming modes to play. Before running through these modes, let’s clear up any potential confusion. To try these game modes, you need to use the call vote option, which is available from the menu (accessed by hitting the Esc key).

Let’s have a brief recap of these modes.

Deathmatch

The typical objective in a deathmatch game is to kill as many other players as possible until a certain condition or limit is reached, often known as a frag or time limit.

In Ninslash, the winner is the person who accrues the most points. Points are earned by killing the other players.

Team Deathmatch

You can probably work out the goal in Team Deathmatch. It’s the same game type as Deathmatch, except that the players now fight in 2 teams and aim for a higher, combined kill score.

This game mode gives you a configurable number of bots to participate.

Invasion (1-4 player co-op mode)

Ninslash Invasion

Invasion is the cooperative game mode. This is one of my favorite modes. You can play the levels on your lonesome, or in a team. Human team games are always more fun, encourage banter, and rib-tickling!

Capture the Flag

Ninslash Capture the Flag

Capture the flag (CTF) is a traditional outdoor game where two teams each have a flag (or other marker) and the objective is to capture the other team’s flag, located at the team’s “base” and bring it safely back to their own base.

This game mode faithfully follows the outdoor game.

Reactor Defense (Counter Strike rules)

Ninslash Reactor Defense

In this game, you have a team reactor. Protect it from the enemy at all cost!

Ball

Ninslash Ball

This game mode is a 1v1 battle where the objective is simple, kick the ball or move it with your body and score goals against your opponent. The image above shows the ball, the two players in their own goals nowhere near the ball. What are they doing? Maybe they’re members of the England national team. Or bots. But there’s negligible difference…

There are 3 maps available for this mode. This is the latest game mode added to Ninslash.

Battle Royale

Ninslash Battle Royale

Battle Royale is a pretty fun game mode where you must avoid the acid at all costs. The acid creeps up from the bottom of the map. You need to battle to reach the upper part (away from the acid), and be the surviving player to earn points. What do points make? In this case, not prizes, but the achievement of being the winner!
