Open Admin for Schools – web-based school administration software

Open Admin for Schools is web-based school administration software. It offers demographics, attendance, discipline, report cards, and has an online gradebook and parent viewing function. It is designed for elementary, K-12, and high schools.

Open Admin for Schools is designed to support an entire division on one or more central computers but also works for a single school.

Currently several school divisions use this approach and have 15+ schools on a single central server. This is because it is designed to be lightweight both in server resource requirements and in communication bandwidth.

Features include:

  • Demographics – stores student and family information that can be viewed and printed in a variety of ways.
  • Attendance – ability to do different numbers of periods per day for elementary grades vs high school and middle years. The attendance system is based around tracking student absences. Each attendance record contains:
    • The Date and the period of the absence.
    • The local student number of the student.
    • The reason for the absence.
    • The subject-Section of a subject for subject based attendance.
    • A late field to track minutes late.
  • Discipline – a simple discipline module to track student discipline events and track outcomes. It allows the addition of discipline records, viewing and categorizing of discipline events (records), and the deletion of groups of records over time.
  • Report Card System – a flexible reporting system with per subject objectives (up to 20) and an unlimited number of subjects, integrated attendance reporting etc.
  • Online Gradebook – allows teachers to enter marks and assessments online from school or home.
  • A Transcript System to print student transcripts including GPA calculations and full support for student progress on the transcript. It also allows the tracking of student progress toward fulfilling graduation requirements.
  • A Fees System (along with Lunch program) to allow charging of student fees, printing of invoices, payments, invoices and export summary transactions to external accounting programs. This provides a school specific Accounts Receivable (A/R) system to track all student billing and payments.
  • Parent/Student Viewing scripts.
  • IEP (Special Needs) Site.
  • Export/Import Modules.
  • Saskatchewan SDS support for direct XML transfers of student demographic, subject and enrollment marks to provincial authorities.
  • Online Daybook to allow teachers to plan and view their lessons/days.
  • Designed for both Public and Catholic schools.
  • Dynamic generation of Adobe Acrobat PDF Reports.
  • Google Apps User Management and External User Management (ie. K12LTSP, Sun Ray Terminals, etc).
