OpenMandriva Lx – Linux distribution descended from Mandriva Linux

OpenMandriva Lx is a general purpose Linux distribution that aims to cater for both beginners and advanced users alike.

The distro has some brand-tools of its own including:

  • OpenMandriva repo-picker – this lets you enable and disable repositories with a few clicks.
  • Desktop presets – a tool to customize the Plasma desktop to look and feel similar to other systems such as macOS, Windows, or a different Linux distribution.
  • Update configuration – tool for configuring automatic updates.
  • Control Center – helps you configure the system.
  • Bug report tool – simple shell script to help in the bug fixing process.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")?

A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system.

Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies.

Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros.

I really loved using Mandriva back in the day. A great distribution.
