Pocketsprite Game Console is billed as the open-source tamagotchi of 2018. The device isn’t aimed at a niche, nerdy group, rather, it’s targeting a growing majority of game lovers and capable coders.
The device sports a 240MHz dual-core ESP32 processor and 520KB of RAM, which is sufficient to play 8-bit classic games, and still fit on a keychain. These specifications compare favourably to the original Game Boy, with its custom 8-bit Sharp LR35902 4.19 MHz processor and 8 kB internal S-RAM.
Pocketsprite Game Console has an OLED screen, comes with built-in speakers, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and an internal battery.
With built-in emulators, the PocketSprite can play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Sega Master System, and Game Gear games.
The PocketSprite is being sold in two versions: a fully-assembled model and a DIY kit that you can assemble yourself. Brings me back to the ZX80 days!
