Pure – set of small, responsive CSS modules

Pure is a set of small, responsive open source CSS modules from Yahoo! that can be used in web projects.

The entire set of modules takes up less than 5KB when compressed. The tiny CSS file size is a boon for mobile users with slow connections.

The tiny footprint still includes responsive styles, design, and ease of use. All modules in Pure build on top of Normalize.css, an HTML5-ready alternative to CSS resets. It is the foundational layer to maintain some degree of cross-browser consistency.

Pure is broken up into a set of responsive modules. Pure CSS does not use any JavaScript plugins except for the drop-down effect.

Features include:

  • 6 modules:
    • Base: Base web page elements like headings, blockquotes, paragraph, typography, abbreviations, inline styles.
    • Grids: Fully customizable and responsive CSS grids.
    • Forms: Simple CSS for HTML forms – Grouped input, multi-column etc.
    • Buttons: Simple CSS for buttons – Various buttons with effects like active, on hover etc.
    • Tables: Simple CSS for HTML tables – Base tables available with border etc.
    • Menus: Simple CSS for menus – Horizontal, Vertical, Dropdown.
  • A responsive grid that can be customized to your needs.
  • Inline-block-based grid system.
  • A solid base built on Normalize.css to fix cross-browser compatibility issues.
  • Consistently styled buttons that work with <a> and <button> elements.
  • Styles for vertical and horizontal menus, including support for dropdown menus.
  • Useful form alignments that look great on all screen sizes.
  • Various common table styles.
  • An extremely minimalist look that is very easy to customize.
  • Responsive by default so elements look great on all screen sizes, with a non-responsive option.
  • Easy one-click customization with the Skin Builder – an app for generating custom skin CSS.
