Quoll Writer is a desktop writing application, written in Java that is designed to allow you to focus on writing and your words.
It removes standard word processing conventions such as margins, indents and formatting in favor of a simple interface that keeps you focused on writing and improving your writing skills.
This is free and open source software. Install the software from the “Beta” link below.
Features include:
- Chapters Overview – holds the text for the story.
- Assets – allow you to keep track of the people, places, items, races, planets, spaceships, cheeses, widgets, and whatever else forms part of the story.
- Scenes and Plot Outline Items – allow you to add markers to important locations within your Chapters.
- Warm-up exercises.
- Searching functionality.
- Notes – make notations about parts of the text. The software offers two types of notes:
- Standard note – like a To Do or Needs more information, akin to making a note in the margin or putting a sticky on the page.
- Edit Needed Note – select part of the text and mark is as needing to edited/revised later.
- Tags and tagging.
- Idea Board – capture your ideas about your story/book/Project. Ideas are grouped into types, for example Characters, Dialogue, Chapters, Scenes etc.
- Full Screen Mode – work without the distraction from other windows.
- Link objects – keep track of the relationships between objects.
- Keyboard shortcuts.
- Internationalization support.
