Searching
One of the most important features of a file manager is the ability to search the filesystem. With large hard disks, manually ploughing through a large number of directories looking for a file can be a burdensome task. Having a reliable and flexible search capability can really make a file manager special.
In the chart below, you’ll see that some of the Qt file managers have no search functionality at all. Fortunately, that’s not the case with Shallot. It’s accessed with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F or from the toolbar.
You can search by file name, modification time, file content, and filesystem extended attributes. There’s also simple pattern, exact, regular expression, and fuzzy expression matching. Searching is quite fast, and works well although the layout is rather messy and poorly thought out.

Re why you don’t like flatpak – I notice the screenshot indicates it’s pulling in an enormous chunk of KDE.
Well done, you’ve won a LinuxLinks mug and mouse mat. And there’s also a $50 Amazon voucher for you.
