VFU is a console (text mode) file manager for UNIX/Linux.
VFU covers all file managing needs and offers a large set of behaviour options.
The software is released under an open source license.
Features include:
- Highly configurable.
- Option to show file/dir sizes either in IEC or SI units.
- “Smart” Home/End keys navigation.
- Bookmark hotkeys.
- Tools – real path, change directory to symlink path, go to symlink target, go back to the last target, make directory, path bookmarks, rename tools, and classify files.
- Toggle mode, owner, group, time, size, type, time on and off.
- Sort by name, extension, size, modify time, change time, access time, attr/mode, owner, group, type (TP), unsorted, randomize, move entry, and modify time.
- TP means:

- -> — link.
- ** — executable.
- ++ — character device.
- ## — socket.
- () — FIFO (pipe).
- == — block device.
- — — regular file.
- TP means:
- Order – ascending or descending.
- Jump to mount point.
- File find.
- Incremental filename search.
- Calculates directories sizes with the option to show all directories sizes.
- Browse/view more than one file at the same time.
- Uses external utilities to handle archives/ftp.
- Cross-platform support – runs on Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, NetBSD, GNU Hurd, Solaris, and DOS.
