The software lets you convert images to a variety of different formats: JPEG XL, AVIF, WebP, JPG, PNG, lossless JPG recompress, JPEG reconstruction, and smallest lossless. The latter does a comparison between converting with OxiPNG, WebP, and JPEG XL.
JPEG XL and AVIF are useful options as they offer high quality and a small file size. The support for Jpegli means you can generate fully compatible JPEGs with up to 35% better compression ratio. Other advantages include high quality results, fast, and can be encoded with 10+ bits per component.
It’s also possible to compress JPEGs losslessly, and then reconstruct them if needed.
If the filename for the output already exists, you can either choose to rename the file(s), replace the file(s), or skip the conversion.
One of the powerful features of the software is that it offers parallel encoding. We tested the software on a machine with a 16 thread CPU. 15 threads are used for the encoding, but this is adjustable.
