ROX-Filer – user friendly desktop software

ROX-Filer is a simple and easy to use graphical file manager for X11 based on the GTK2 library. It uses a uniform drag-and-drop approach for every operation.

It is also the core component of the ROX Desktop Environment.

The software aims to marry together good features from RISC OS to Linux.

Features include:

• Fully configurable.
• Small footprint.
• Thumbnails.
• Pinboard support – pin frequently used files to the desktop.
• Fast background scanning of directories.
• Uncluttered display (popup menus are used throughout).
• Background file operations (copy, move, link, delete, permissions, find).
• Powerful expression-based search feature with on-line quick reference (e.g. ‘mtime after 2 days ago and size > 10Mb’ finds files based on their modification time and size).
• Mounts and unmounts filesystems (floppies, DVDs, etc).
• Supports XDND, the common drag-and-drop protocol.
• Supports XDS extension which allows drag-and-drop savings.
• Shared MIME Info Database.
• Pop-up minibuffer allows navigating the filesystem using shell-style tab completion.
• Self contained relocatable applications.
• Icon Themes.
• DNotify support.
• Support for running freedesktop.org ‘.desktop’ files.
