MegaLinter – analyzes the consistency of your code

MegaLinter runs a collection of code analysis tools from a single configuration. It checks source files, infrastructure-as-code, scripts and project configuration against a consistent set of standards, sparing teams the bother of maintaining separate linting commands for each language.

Although particularly useful in continuous integration, it also runs locally on Linux. Developers can use it to inspect changes before committing them or let a CI pipeline identify problems when a pull or merge request arrives. It works with mixed-language repositories and does not depend on a particular editor.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Integrates established tools including ESLint, Ruff, ShellCheck, Biome, markdownlint and many other linters and formatters.
  • Checks modified files or entire repositories, with configurable file filters and individual linter settings.
  • Supports GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure Pipelines and other CI systems, with a local runner for checks before committing changes.
  • Can apply supported automatic fixes and package corrected files for retrieval from CI jobs.
  • Detects duplicated code, spelling mistakes, exposed secrets and potential security vulnerabilities using specialised analysis tools.
  • Generates console summaries, JSON and SARIF reports, with results available in pull and merge request comments.
  • Offers prebuilt and custom Docker flavours containing selected tools to reduce image size and improve execution time.
  • Provides an optional LLM Advisor that suggests ways to resolve linting errors, with support for cloud-based and local language models.
